Bacteria belonging to the Dorea genus are known to be major gas producers. These bacteria are found in many healthy pets, but when their numbers grow too large, they are associated with both constipation and with increased intestinal permeability. (Greater intestinal permeability means that allergens and pathogens from food are easily able to squeeze between intestinal cells to reach your pet’s bloodstream, where they can cause serious illness.)
