Bacteria belonging to the Fusobacterium genus are present in the vast majority of healthy dogs and cats. When they are absent, this may be indicative of a health problem. At the same time, elevated levels of Fusobacterium are associated with chronic digestive issues, particularly diarrhea, so moderation is key. If your pet has a Fusobacterium deficiency, increasing the protein content in the diet can be helpful, as these bacteria do best in protein-rich environments.
